Innovation at Work Capital Campaign
Johnson College’s Class A Truck driver training managed by Ancora Education, provides students with training to inspect and operate tractor-trailers and to assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspections, defensive driving, range maneuvers, motor carrier safety regulations (DOT 380 -397 and a certificate for entry level drivers), trip planning, cargo handlings, size/weight laws, general maintenance procedures, hours of service, and accident prevention.

4 Weeks of Weekday Classes (Monday-Thursday 7:00 am – 5:30 pm)
8 Weeks of Weekend Classes (Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 am – 5:30 pm)
CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer Certificate
Graduates will be able to perform full Pre-trip Vehicle Inspection.
Graduates will be able to perform six backing maneuvers introduced in CDL1102.
Graduates will have undergone 16 hours of driving skills behind the wheel, 3 of which must be at night.
Graduates will have undergone 44 hours of observation of on-road driving skills.
CDL 1101 CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer I (40 Hours)
Describe the minimum requirements for obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Identify entry-level driver training requirements, including driver qualification, hours of service, driver wellness, and whistleblower protection. Describe CSA vehicle inspection, backing, coupling and uncoupling, speed & space management, extreme driving conditions, emergency maneuvers, and handling cargo. Introduction, driving safely, transporting cargo safely, transporting passengers safely, air brakes, combination vehicles, doubles and triples, tank vehicles, hazardous materials, school bus, introduction to trucking, map reading, coupling & uncoupling, vehicle systems, vehicle maintenance, vehicle inspection, basic control, shifting, backing, visual search, space management, speed management, logbooks, and human trafficking awareness
CDL 1102 CDL Training: Class A Tractor Trailer II (120 hours)
This course includes instruction in the Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection and introduces students to Basic Vehicle Control Skills and public On-Road driving. Students are taught in detail about vehicle systems, maintenance, and inspection. Safety factors are outlined regarding controlling, shifting, backing the truck, visual search, and space and speed management. During skills training, students can learn four basic maneuvers: straight-line backing, offset backing, parallel parking, and 90-degree alley backing. During on-road training, students that have acquired Commercial Learner’s Permits can learn vehicle operation techniques, including gear-shifting, turning, maneuvering in traffic, and defensive driving.
Total: 160 hours
Special Admission Requirements
Before registering, you must have a driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record (MVR). Participants will also have to complete the Department of Transportation (DOT) drug screen and physical, and a Valid CDL Permit is required before the end of the first week of class.
The cost of Tuition is $5,000.
Physical, Drug Screen, MVR and testing fees are covered under tuition.
CDL Permit or Licensure Fees is not covered by tuition.
