Johnson College Welcomes New Students

Freshmen were welcomed to the Johnson College family at New Student Orientation on Thursday, August 19, 2010.

Dr. Ann L. Pipinski, President and CEO of Johnson College, greeted the Class of 2012 at the start of the day. Dr. Pipinski shared, “All of the faculty and staff look forward to this time of year. It’s great to have the campus bustling again and to meet new students.”

The theme of this year’s orientation as well as the College’s Welcome Week, scheduled for August 23-27, 2010, is “Islanded an Education at Johnson College.” A number of fun, Hawaiian themed events were scheduled in order to connect students to the campus community.

The goal of New Student Orientation was to inform and entertain. The Orientation Committee once again invited Keith Karkut to perform his educational and engaging Hypnotic Intoxication presentation, which taught students about the dangers of alcohol abuse. Students also participated in various team building exercises.

“Orlando 5-0,” a campus-wide scavenger hunt, allowed participants to learn about and explore the College. During the scavenger hunt, teams of students collected a number of puzzle pieces. Each group assembled their pieces once the hunt concluded. At the end of the day, all of the groups connected their separate sections into one large puzzle.

“We wanted to illustrate that each student, each instructor, each staff member, each alumnus is an integral part of our campus community. Without each piece, our puzzle would be incomplete,” states Devon Fawcett, Director of Student Life.
