The CMC Rich Vinansky Memorial Golf Tournament Student Scholarship Fund Committee has established a scholarship for students in Johnson College’s Radiologic Technology Program.
The CMC Rich Vinansky Memorial Golf Tournament Student Scholarship will be awarded to two first-year Radiologic Technology students. The funds will give a generous financial boost to those who wish to attend the College.
Funding of the scholarship will be provided from contributions made through the Annual Rich Vinansky Memorial Golf Tournament.
Twenty-one years ago, Rich Vinansky started the Annual CMC Employee Golf Tournament. After Mr. Vinansky passed away, his colleagues and friends took the reins, renaming the event the Annual Rich Vinansky Memorial Golf Tournament
Jay Kurilla and Jim Lopatka serve as Co-Chairs for the Tournament. This new scholarship was established because those involved wished to see the proceeds from the event go to a worthy cause. Mr. Kurilla expressed, “We felt that it would be a great tribute to our friend to donate in his memory for education of future Technologists.”
Jane Maas, MS, RT, Radiologic Technology Department Chairperson, states, “On behalf of the Radiologic Technology Program and its students, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude to the CMC Rich Vinansky Memorial Golf Tournament Student Scholarship Fund Committee for presenting this award. Their foresight and generosity will greatly assist both present and future recipients of the scholarship in achieving their goals.”

The Class of 2012 is Johnson College’s largest incoming class to date. Last year’s overall enrollment number was 405. The final reported numbers for the 2010-11 academic year are as follows:
FTE Total*: Freshmen 259 Seniors 212 Total Enrollment 469.5
* FTE stands for full-time equivalent. This figure is determined by adding the total number of credits being taken by part-time students and dividing by 12 (a full-time student).
“We’re proud that Johnson College continues to attract a growing number of outstanding students,” states Melissa Ide, Director of Enrollment Management.
To celebrate the new, and record-breaking, academic year, the Department of Student Life organized Johnson College’s first-ever Welcome Week in August. The week served to connect students to the campus community in new and exciting ways.
The theme of the occasion was “Islanded an Education at Johnson College.” During the first week of classes, students, faculty, and staff enjoyed many fun, Hawaiian-themed events. Student Life offered free JaguaRita’s – Rita’s Italian Ice, a lively beach volleyball tournament took place, students discovered what the College’s student organizations and athletic programs had to offer during Tiki Time, and on Castaway Friday students showed their island spirit by wearing tropical-themed clothing.
Another special part of the festivities included a Luau sponsored by the Alumni Association. Well over two hundred people, including students, alumni, faculty, and staff, threw on their best leis to attend the event.
Tami Pease, Associate Director of Development, partnered with Devon Fawcett, Director of Student Life, to create the event to keep the Johnson College community thriving. Ms. Pease states, “Offering the Alumni Luau during Welcome Week worked out perfectly. It reinforced the importance of campus involvement not only during but also after graduation. The students had a blast mingling with alumni and alumni were able to see themselves reflected in the students.”
At the Luau, Bobby DeMeck ’08 welcomed the crowd on behalf of the Alumni Council. “The Alumni Association strives to offer a wide range of opportunities for socializing and networking. Events like the Alumni Luau contribute significantly to a rich alumni experience,” Mr. DeMeck shared.
Attendees participated in volleyball and pineapple bowling, found out how low they could go during limbo, donned some silly outfits for a tacky tourist relay, and talked the night away.
