On November 9, 2009, Johnson College’s Electronic Technology program welcomed guest speaker David Jadick, Human Resources Staff Officer at Tobyhanna Army Depot. Richard Fornes ’94, Electrical Division Chair, invited Mr. Jadick into his classroom to inform students about how to succeed in their chosen career fields.
Mr. Jadick began with a presentation on Tobyhanna Army Depot, emphasizing its history, work, and importance to the area. Following the overview of the Depot, Mr. Jadick explained the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP). SCEP serves as a recruitment tool for Federal employers and gives individuals the opportunity to receive paid work experience in their chosen field while still attending school. After completion of the program, students may be eligible for permanent employment after they have graduated.
Johnson College has been participating in SCEP since 2000. Students in several of the College’s academic fields, such as Electronic Technology, Architectural Drafting and Design Technology, and Biomedical Equipment Technology, are eligible to take part. Roseann Martinetti, Johnson College’s Associate Director of Constituent Relations, states, “SCEP is a valuable program. It allows students to get practical career experience that compliments their studies.”
