Johnson College held its 2011 Fall Career Fair on November 2, 2011. Nearly 200 students and alumni networked with close to 60 organizations, making it the largest career fair in the College’s history.

Roseann Martinetti, Associate Director of Career Services, states, “In the age of virtual career fairs and online applications, the tradition of on-campus career fairs continues to grow and flourish at Johnson College and provides students and alumni with important connections and opportunities to network. Most jobs are not advertised and are filled by word of mouth. Career fairs at the College offer employers a pool of applicants that possess the skills they need and offer the students and alumni a chance to apply for a variety of positions.”

The College’s biannual career fairs occur each Fall and Spring and are open to current Johnson College students and alumni only. Visiting organizations present a wide variety of career opportunities for full-time and part-time positions as well as internship opportunities. Several colleges, which have articulation agreements with Johnson College, are also represented at the fairs to provide information on further education.

The 2011 Fall Career Fair demonstrated that the fairs are not only important to students and alumni but also to local employers.

“This is the best job fair of the year,” asserted Amy Clegg of Express Employment Professionals, a staffing agency that provides full-time and temporary job placement, human resources services, and consulting.

Megan M. Malinak, MSIR, PHR, of Carbondale’s Hendrick Manufacturing, which is a leading provider of perforated metal products and custom fabrication for use in a variety of industries, shared, “We have full-time employees receiving Continuing Education training at Johnson College and we’ve been very happy with the results… When we hire, we look for individuals with a good technical background and the College provides students with that in its degree program areas.”

Johnson College is currently planning its 2012 Spring Career Fair. To find out more about the College and its career fairs, visit www.johnson.edu.

The Johnson College community has been getting into the holiday spirit by helping others.

On November 19, 2011, students and staff as well as their friends and family volunteered at the 19th Annual Greater Scranton Jaycees Santa Parade. Thousands of people enjoyed the parade and welcomed Santa Claus to downtown Scranton. This year’s event required approximately 300 volunteers. Many of the volunteers from the College held the largest helium balloon in the parade – Pizazz the Snowman.

Throughout late November and early December, the College’s Social Force Club sponsored its annual Giving Tree. Social Force is a community service organization that also provides cultural and social activities for students. The club organized the Giving Tree in order to make holiday gift wishes come true for local children in need.

Check www.johnson.edu to find out more about Johnson College and keep up to date on the College’s involvement in the community.

The Outstanding Veterinary Nursing Award was presented in recognition of National Veterinary Technician Week, which took place from October 9th – 15th, 2011.
