On April 24, 2010, Johnson College’s Employee Event Committee sponsored Carnival for a Cause. The event raised $3,060 for the Employment Opportunity and Training Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania (EOTC).
EOTC is a private, non-profit organization that provides workforce and family services to residents of Lackawanna County. The organization focuses on promoting family stability and economic self-sufficiency. All monies raised at Johnson College’s Carnival for a Cause directly benefited the many multifaceted programs that EOTC has to offer.
“In these times of great economic uncertainty, EOTC makes a positive difference in the lives of many men, women and children in this area,” explains Stephanie Orzalek, member of the Johnson College Employee Event Committee.
Over 200 families attended Carnival for a Cause, which was open to the public. The day-long indoor carnival featured a bake sale, raffle baskets, children’s moon bounces and games, and more.
Scranton Firefighters were on hand to provide free hot dogs and offer tours of their fire engine. The pie-in-the-face toss and the dunk tank proved to be very popular, allowing individuals a chance to pie or dunk a number of Johnson College instructors, staff members, and students. Mark Bremer ’10 won the event’s entertaining hot dog eating contest by consuming seven hot dogs in six minutes.
Carnival for a Cause’s success was made possible by the dedication of its volunteers, which included Johnson College faculty, staff, and students as well as several representatives from EOTC.
“Every single person I have spoken with has commented on the spirit of the event, and Johnson College’s wonderful staff and students. We gained so much from this joint venture, above and beyond the mind boggling $3,060 check,” states Dr. Ruth A. Connolly, EOTC’s Development Director.

You should do an event like that at least twice per year. We do the same type of thing for our community watch and for our church.
Wou it was a great day. I cant wait for a repeat
