On November 18, 2009, Johnson College students in the programs of Automotive Technology, Carpentry and Cabinetmaking Technology, Diesel Truck Technology, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology, and Precision Machining Technology gathered to observe a tool demonstration given by NAPA Auto Parts.
Sterling Oddo, a representative from NAPA, gave the students a brief overview of the company’s vision, resources, and locations. NAPA is a leader in its industry with more than 380,000 parts, 6,000 store locations, and 64 distribution centers.
Mr. Oddo exhibited a variety of tools. At the close of the demonstration, students were able to examine these items and take a look inside the NAPA Tool Truck. Each student was also presented with a NAPA Student Discount Card. The card offers significant savings, allowing them to build up their own professional tool collection while still in college.
David Manasek, President of Manasek Auto Parts, Inc./NAPA Auto Parts, values the partnership between NAPA and Johnson College. Mr. Manasek explained to the students, “The quality of education you are receiving here at Johnson College is a great asset to you in the job market today. You have great instructors who care about your future.”

Today industry also looking forward to visit colleges and explain what exactly they are looking for from the students when they come out of the colleges.
Hope this goes on more and many more companies visit colleges and train and explain the students towards the actual work they would be doing when they are into the jobs.
I like the practical education or work. Any one can know the in and outs of any job only when he is involved into that part of work. So hope colleges come up with more practical education rather than theory.

I do love to practical education, it is more fun and at the same time you can really learned so much by doing actual work. I do hope also colleges will encourage this kind of education!
As a missionary avionics tech with New Tribes Mission, I use to love the days when the tool distributors would come. Now that I manage web content, I really miss that aspect of my ministry.

“Great instructors who care about your future” is something that’s really needed not only to universities, but as well as with other educational institution. it’s the principle of the mentor that’s moves lives in schools and molds the future.
Based on this, NAPA seems to be the kind of company/organization that serves as a role models for other companies who want to be a success.

Johnson College is great to prepare students for jobs. They have a clear direction. It is clear that the employers are already trying to get their attention. Way to go.
