Local Johnson College Alumni Return to Campus

Tags: , , , ,

On November 10, 2009, Johnson College welcomed local alumni back to campus for its “Get Connected – Scranton” event. The event assembled members of classes ranging from 1952 to 2009, some returning to campus for the first time since they graduated.

Attendees were welcomed by Katie Leonard, Johnson College’s Director of Development, and Tami Pease, Associate Director of Development. Explaining the purpose of the event, Tami Pease stated, “Reconnecting with alumni is extremely important to us. These ‘Get Connected’ events help us celebrate Johnson College’s past, showcase our progress, and highlight the promise of our future.”

Alumnus Joseph Yusinski ’93 also addressed the crowd and urged his fellow alumni to get more involved with their alma mater by joining the Alumni Association. He stressed the significance of camaraderie among fellow alumni and the value of helping future generations of Johnson College students.

The event allowed alumni to network with fellow graduates as well as past and present members of Johnson College faculty and staff. The College’s departments of Continuing Education and Industrial Relations were on hand to speak with alumni about available training in their fields as well as job opportunities.

Alumni cherished the opportunity to reminisce about their time at Johnson College. Photographs and copies of The Johnsonian, Johnson College’s newsletter, were on display, portraying the College’s journey from the early 1900s to the present. The alumni added to the nostalgia of the evening by sharing their own memories with each other. William Smith ‘52 delighted listeners with a rendition of the Johnson College song from years past.

A highlight for many was the campus tour conducted by Dominick Carachilo ’82, Johnson College’s Vice President of Academic Affairs. While the College has transformed though the years, many areas of campus continue to maintain a special place in history. Anthony Colozza ’59 exclaimed, “This brings back a lot of memories!”

The Johnson College Development Office enjoys creating events for alumni to get together and plans to continue its “Get Connected” events around the country.
