On Friday, October 16, 2009, Johnson College’s Veterinary Technology Club sponsored a free seminar to educate the public on animal first aid. Ms. Kendra Lapsansky, BS, CVT, an instructor for the Veterinary Technology program, taught the audience how to recognize and deal with pet health concerns and emergencies. She covered a variety of topics including what to look for on an injured or sick animal, how to handle a wounded pet, tick removal, and disaster preparedness. First aid kits, comprised of important tools for caring for a distressed pet, were available for purchase.
The Veterinary Technology Club scheduled this event in conjunction with The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America’s National Veterinary Technician Week, which occurs during the third week of October. Veterinary Technicians are an essential part of veterinary care in areas such as assisting in surgery, taking radiographs and evaluating blood samples.

Hi! Thanks for the info. I hope you’ll post if you do the seminar again. I’d love to attend!
I hope you all understand how important this information is for the good care of our pets. I wished we would have more of these initiatives all around the country.
Way to go Girls…
rescuing pets is an important job and having better pet advice is on of the rewarding things in life.
Excellent job ladies!!! We need more people to be proactive with pet health concerns and learning how to deal with pet emergencies. This is something needed in more areas all over the country.
Heck yea!!! what a lovely group of ladies! more power to ya!
Great idea! I hope this type of public education becomes commonplace, as the safety of our beloved pets is very important!
Kudos to Johnson Technical College for the free seminar teaching people how to recognize pet health problems and how to react to emergency situations with our beloved animal friends. I wish that I could have been there. Hopefully more schools will offer this type of training.
Keep up the great work!
Wow I wish I could have all you guy write info for my reader on my site http://www.mypetsolutions.com if more people only see thru your eyes we could change how every single pet is treated in the entire world, God Bless you guys keep up great work !
I love to see you young ladies providing this seminar, I spend a lot of time in my community doing the same thing. Educating pet owners on first aid for their pets.
Wonderful way to go girls!
more power to ya! =]
Being an animal lover and long time owner of various pets, I think it is great that you all are helping train the public on how to care for their animals.
Wonderful job ladies
What a great service to your community. I would love to see the same kind of thing in my area. If I do see something like this going on I will post it on my blog mydogrio.info Thanks for the good work you are doing.
I saw this advertised on Google News. I have to agree. In New Zealand we are very pet friendly but we still have a long way to go. Thanks for the share.
This is fabulous news. I agree we have a way to go yet. Keep up the good work.
Wow I never knew there was such thing as an veterinary technology club. Great work to everyone involved!
Over the years we’ve really gotten to know our veterinary technicians. They know and care about our pets, and answer all of our questions.
There is no doubt that these ladies are all indispensable at their locations, too. Thanks for all you do!
I love the awareness here. It’s all about perspicacity and the raising awareness in young people about taking care of our pets, giving them the right pet vitamins, and love.
It’s so wonderful that these girls see the importance in all of this!
What a great community service! We don’t have a veterinary college in our city, but I wonder whether veterinary clinics would consider following this great example, maybe taking turns sponsoring classes on a rotating basis. Pet CPR would be a great add-on.
Thank you for keepin’ it free!
Well done awareness is what its all about talking to each other and learning new tricks.
Its a great idea to teach people how to care for the health of their pets. Potential problems can be identified before they get really bad.
This is great! Giving free seminars like this is a must! People must know how to give first aid to their pets. Way to go girls!
This is really important information you are sharing and I hope you continue this in your careers and personal lives. Our pets need this and need us!
Three cheers for Johnson College’s Veterinary Technology Program!!!
wow if these were the veteranians in my place I would difinetely bring my dogs and cats for a groom everyday to the clinic he he

I love seeing women rise to the top. What a great age we live in!
This is a wonderful thing you are doing here. Please keep up the good work. Awareness and action could save a pet’s life! Very cool!
Great idea and hope to see things like this spring up over the country so as to help others.
I agree with you that we really have a way to go yet.Still a long distance to cover and alot more to discover.Insightful post.
Oh yeah. That should be done all over the country. Someone had to do it. You should be proud of your self..
Very interesting, informative and educational. I really like it as it is very informative. Thank you for posting this one.
Animal first aid? Great idea!
Once as a kid I saw a cow getting hit by a bus. It wasn’t that brutal as the driver braked almost in time. It just knocked it over. However I felt really bad I had no idea what to do.
Nice blog! I’m so grateful to know that you guys were doing a lot of efforts to educate people n taking care of animals. Through this, an individual will be more responsible in taking care of there pets.
More powers!
Pet health is such an unknown topic for many pet owners. Here in the Phoenix Arizona area, one of our biggest issues is pet owners not understanding the devastating effects on a pet that the summer heat has…from walking dogs on the hot cement and pavement, (yes, even in 115 degrees), to taking them for hikes and outdoor play in those same temperatures, to providing inadequate water and shelter while being forced to stay outside. Teaching owners here about the impact of those actions, how to identify a distressed pet, and subsequently the first aid in treating them would be invaluable.
Thank you for donating your time and efforts to the cause of taking care of our beloved pets.

Wow. This is a great news. Sounds very interesting. I’m very glad to read this blog. I will send this to my folks.
Keep on posting!
These veterinarians are great for sure, I would not hesitate to bring my pets to them. Anyway, nice post.
Great post! I like your topic. I’m glad to hear that you really care for animals.
Keep on updating!
Well done!

Perfect post! Everything is so impressive. Thanks for sharing this matter.
Good luck to all of you. More powers!
Everything is so amazing. Insights are well define and explain. I learned so much things here. Keep it up!
Outstanding blog! You present it proprly to the readers. I’m so happy to read this. Thanks for the info.
Teaching owners here about the impact of those actions, how to identify a distressed pet, and subsequently the first aid in treating them would be invaluable.
Looks like you have a great bunch of students here. I bet you are really proud of them all. Pet health care is definitely a growing and important field of study.
Congrats! Good effort to invite The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in the seminar. Hope you can post also the events and discussions in the seminar soon. Will wait for your next post. re: seminar discussions.
Great Job! Wish every city could have this education. It’s so very important for dog owners or even those wanting their first puppy to increase their knowledge.
Respect to the veterinarians
Nice job, i really respect these veterinarians they are such an underrated profession
pet health is an important issues
specially the mans best frend dogs
i know of some people in japan who train thier dogs to such an extent that they actually talk to them and understand each and every emotions!
I am a lover of animals who has always housed pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and fish. As such, I have always been drawn to others who also own pets. However, I have been repeatedly astounded how little pet owners understand about the health of their animals and they ten to take very little time to study the subject.
I wholeheartedly congratulate Johnson Technical College for making this terrifically important seminar available for free. It will definitely make more pet owners more responsible.
Kudos to you and thank you!
First aid training for pet owners is a great idea. I remember being panicked and useless when one of my dogs broke a nail way up in the quick. He was screaming and there was a lot of blood. Other than getting him to the vet, I couldn’t think what to do.
I know how to respond when a human is injured. I can even perform CPR. I’m embarrassed and a little scared that I don’t know more. I wish this program were available everywhere.
Any chance this seminar could be branched out to other cities in the country? I believe it would be highly beneficial to all pet owners…especially those who really love their pets.
Thanks,
Jo Chris

this nice article Good post…..Valuable information for all.I will

Great post. I love seeing colleges giving back to the community. If I lived near by I certainly would’ve attended Great work!
I am avid fish and pet lover and i enjoy the feeling when my visitors and even my vets come in and admire my cichlid tank setup in my living room.
Thanks JTC, for making this seminar free!
Great article you got there. You did a marvelous job covering this topic. I love reading blogs like because it keeps me informed and happy. Thank you for this great post and making my day bright.
Wow – CPR for pets! How amazing! Every member of the public would do well to know CPR not only for pets but people as well!

What a great program! Johnson Tech is to be congratulated on educating the public on first aid for pets, something many people don’t even think about. At http://www.petsuppliesus.org we have many first aid kits and supplies available, recognizing that toys, beds, water, and food are not the only things our pets need, although we hope they don’t need the first aid too often!!
Keep up the good work, and congratulations to those young ladies who are training to be veterinary technicians.
wow!Females sharing half of the world.
Just kidding.
Well done, girls. For our pets to our hearts.
This is a very important topic, because I was once bitten by an injured cat that I was trying to help.
About a week and a half ago, my friend’s dog had a benign mole began to leak. It happened while I was at the house. I admit now I really wish I had known something about pet first aid as I really enjoy that dog he’s a half-breed mix of African Rhodesian Ridge and Labrador retriever. So, he’s got a wonderful sensitive nature but all the good fun-loving qualities and gentleness of a lab.
While I love dogs and cats best, I love animals in general and I think that’s a wonderful thing to make this kind of seminar available for free.
Thanks to you.
Such seminar has got to be held in every community so we can save more pets thru first aid. Kudos to the club who thought of this wonderful idea! You sure are a good example!
Lovely… Keep up the good work !
Great post, the training for animal first aid would be very helpful specially to pet owners. I recommend pet owners join this kind of training. Thanks for sharing, Melissa.
I hope this will encourage people to be more keen about their pets health.I have enjoyed the post.
Cool, sounds like a fun seminar. One of my friends is studying to be a vet, im sure she’d love this!
I think that informing people on pet care and first aid is an absolute necessity in the world we live in. As an active member of the pet community, i said thank you for holding such seminar.
Pets are our friends, they are animals we have as our friends. They love us and we love them dearly. I believe it’s important to care for our own or else who would do it if we don’t. Seminars like these are really a great push in the right direction when it comes to care for our pets.
Animal first aid is an important skill for anyone who cares enough for their pet.
I have never thought of having a pet first aid kit. What a great idea. I’ll talk to me vet about what one should contain. Congratulations to all of you.
My cat was seriously ill about 3 years ago .. he’s still here because of is Vet .. it’s an occupation to be proud of .. keep up the good work ..
Hats off to you guys! Keep it up!
What a great seminar. I really think it’s a brilliant idea to make it free. If you could somehow expand out into other parts of the U.S. it could be a big success. Well congratulations and keep up the good work.
Fantastic. I would love to see this become a regular event, and held in locations all over the world… like monthly. For the general public to be able to learn how to help their pets, particularly in an emergency situation, is a very beneficial thing.
A forum for Australian pet owners!
only thing i can say is that you people are noble to the very sense of the word. I’m pretty sure my dog, pong2x would agree..
Fantastic stuff… how can it be expanded so that other parts of the country/world can get on board? Maybe through the various SPCA/Humane Societies?
Just think without this programme many cats and other pets will have suffered. Keep up the good work you’re really doing something valuable.
Great Article! Wish you can guess blog for me on my http://www.warrenlondon.com site! Let me know!
Great way to educate people! Good sponsorship!
Excellent idea and great website. Thanks for a most interesting post and keep up the great job.
It’s great to see people doing things like this. As owner of multiple dogs, I can tell you that I very much appreciate the time that goes into helping animals. Great job!
When it comes dogs or any pets for that matter there is little awareness of what to do in case of emergency. Not all the time you can find a vet around.
This is a fantastic initiative and I encourage you continue to raise the awareness as there is a pressing need for this kind of scenarios.
well done !
Indeed, very noble people. Great story.
Great Work!, you guy’s seem to be doing a great job, this would defiantly be something we could use in South Africa as we face many problems relating to animal care. Keep up the good work!
Great Post. Definitely important to have a first aid kit
I can not even begin to tell you how wonderful I think it is for Johnson College to provide this seminar. Being in Phoenix and a part of the dog training field, I have an idea of how invaluable this seminar can be to dog owners. That holds especially true for Phoenix dog owners who sometimes are a complete loss as to how to take care of their pets in this extremely hot summer weather. Thank you again Johnson College. Maybe you could set something up here in Phoenix to put on a free seminar or partner up with another organization in the area. The Arizona Dog Sports facility can provide a location for the event even.
Animal first aid is vital for every pet owner to know. I am a dog and cat fanatic and firmly believe in training my animals to create a good home environment for everyone.
Hey there! I’ve been reading your website for some time now and finally got the courage to go ahead and give you a shout out from Lubbock Texas! Just wanted to mention keep up the fantastic job!
This is an excellent idea that I wish were put into place all over the world. Unfortunately in many area people could care less about animals. Thumbs up to you guys for a great job!
Animal first aid is an important
I love this website and everything you can learn here
Everyone should be required to raise and take proper care of a dog and prove that it is well trained and loved before they are allowed to have children. There is a lot to be learned from training and taking care of dogs and if more people did it there would be a lot more love in this world.
Most pet owners feel very protective of their pets and this website can help them prepare for those times when First aid is required
Dogs are great because they demonstrate what love looks like
Very important to know signs of a sick animal as they have fewer ways of communicating their distress to us, a great and valuable course.
A white dove adopted us 23 years ago. We call him Coo because that’s what he does. He is extremely easy to care for, but occasionally we have to take him to the Vet when we notice his behavior change. The U of Pennsylvania veterinary hospital is great and they have Vets who know how to handle exotic animals. We prefer to err on the safe side if we are not sure if he is distressed for some reason.
We love Coo
This is very important for every animal lover and pet owner! Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Bill
Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is a very well written article. I’ll be sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your useful info. Skup Samochodow Thanks for the post. I’ll certainly return. Feel free to yourself
I recently found this website that I want to share with everyopne as they were a huge help when I was
working on a recent project. I needed to know how to do some stuff in PHP and they were able to provide
a tutorial sepcifically tailored to my needs. It was fantastic.
TeamTutorials
I recommend you hit them up and check them out if you need assistance.
You mention truth issue on that stuff. I think you described it in a professional way. I hope you go further in this way, with your excellent way of writing articles.
I was wondering if any of the veterinarian teachings are along the lines of using dogs to help with terminally ill or very sick humans.
Thank you so much.
Because people like you our world looks better.
Keep on and may god blesses you.
Susan.

I have subscribed to your R SS Feed to keep updated.
I look forward to your future posts.
Thanks for sharing this incredible story with us.
Wow. Its nice to see people making a move to save those pet who are in need.. Good job guys!!!
First aid for dogs is so important and most people don’t get the training they need on it. I think first aid for dogs should be part of all training classes so people at least understand the basics.
I have gone through your article and found interesting information on BS, CVT,. This will be helpful to me and other readers. Along with this I have seen very much useful information for fitness equipments on http://www.worldfitness.com.au , as modern world needs this to take care to be fit in life.
What a great blog! I hope all the people in the club go on to save many pets for people. Pets are family members and they really do teach one how to love.
All of the people in the picture are women and they are all beautiful people or else they wouldn’t care about pets.
I love dogs and all the people who take care of them are wonderful people. Thanks for this resource!
Thanks to The Veterinary Technology Club organizations such as these we can be sure that dogs on the whole will be catered for in the future years ahead, once any dog gets sick its good to see so many young folks interested in the welfare of dogs and the care needed to make sure dogs will be well looked after in health and veterinary care – thanks to you all…

I know that I’ve wanted to adopt a dog myself that hasn’t had such a great life previously. Very inspiring to see this… keep it up girls!

I actually have a personal story about a german sheppard that found it’s way to my aunts house, who lived alone. This was the blessing she needed because it gave her a reason to keep on moving forward. I won’t go into the history but this was a miracle in her life. There are a few movies on blu ray disc now that I have seen. Try finding one at blockbuster or something like that.
As a dog owner, this is a great community service! Thank you for sharing this with us.Keep up the good work.
thank you for this great source of information
This picture might prove that women are better with pets then men are. Great write up. Thanks for the post.
“The Veterinary Technology Club scheduled this event in conjunction with The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America’s National Veterinary Technician Week, which occurs during the third week of October. Veterinary Technicians are an essential part of veterinary care in areas such as assisting in surgery, taking radio graphs and evaluating blood samples.”
I enjoyed your article and being from Texas made it more interesting. I started to go to Vet. school but ended up in Medical School in Dallas at UT Southwestern.
Thanks for the good info, keep up the good work!
It is nice to see so many young women in this field.
What a great idea to offer a seminar on pet first aid in your community. I have attended several pet first aid classes but I can’t imagine one better than one put on by the Veterinary Technology Club and what good exposure for you.
I wonder if in my area of Raleigh, NC the school would put on such seminars. I would love for all my pet sitters to attend a pet first aid course.
What a great thing this team is doing. When you care so much about our little critter friends, it’s nice to hear that they have friends like this out there. Keep up the good work. We are a “Green pet products provider and can be found at http://teamauctions.com/petlanding.html for more information.
Nice story
The girls in the pic are so beautiful
There are so many people, ah, I like it!
It’s great to see that people care for animals nowadays. Veterinary is one growing career.
Thank you for spreading this inspiring idea. I’m sure this initiative triggered the similar activities in other parts of the country.
Wow I never knew there was such thing as an veterinary technology club. Great work to everyone involved!
I have to admit this content was very worthwhile. I discovered you with a google search and was rather
stunned at your rank for this article.
You all really done a good job.
Is this an ongoing annual seminar? Sounds interesting.
It truly is great to know there are people out there that give their time to care for animals. It is even more empowering to know a group of women are excelling in the veterinary field. Great work.
The Veterinary Technology Club scheduled this event in conjunction with The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America’s National Veterinary Technician Week, which occurs during the third week of October.
thank you for this great source of information
Having been around animals all my life I can say that first aid for them is not taught enough. At the very least people should have the emergency number for a local veterinary hospital posted on their fridge door. It could save your pets life!
I love animal and thank you for the great post as pet in general is a subject closed to my heart. Thank you
We have a new dog that wandered up last week. That makes five now. Don’t know when I will get back to HVAC Training.
With pet ownership on the rise learning first aid makes sense. Hopefully these people also know first aid for humans. CPR can save lives. 30 chest compressions followed by 2 breaths and repeating this till help arrives is very simple
Took me time to read all the comments, but I actually enjoyed the write-up. It proved to become Very useful to me and Im positive to all the commenters here Its always good when you can not only be informed, but also entertained Im sure you had fun writing this post.
Great program! Keep it up.
I wish more Veterinary Clubs would do something like this. The health of our pets is so important because we care about them so much. I wouldn’t ever want my dog to be sick, but if she was, this First Aid Seminar would be so valuable. Thanks for the great post!
A very useful information. Thanks for sharing this.
I hope you all understand how important this information is for the good care of our pets.
Exchange of experience is widely distributed. As well collaboration could help increase standards.
i think the only way to cope up with the complexity of pet diseases and the proper care for our pets, its really a must to have seminars from time to time. have you heard of pet cosmetic surgery? i read it last week, and i find it pathetic and funny.
Wow, I’ve never seen so many women vets together in the same place. I remember a time when this would have been unheard of. This is super news indeed.
Hello my loved one! I wish to say that this article is awesome, great written and come with approximately all vital infos. I¡¯d like to see extra posts like this .
Its encouraging to note that the holistic needs of pets gets the attention of concerned groups and individuals.
