Johnson College Unveils Newly Renovated Cafeteria

Scranton, PA – August 27, 2009 – As Johnson College students returned to campus, they caught their first glimpse of the College’s newly renovated cafeteria space. Thanks, in part, to a grant awarded by the Moffat Family Charitable Trust, renovations to the cafeteria began in June in order to update its appearance and install new, state-of-the-art cafeteria equipment.

The cafeteria’s food preparation is now run by Metz & Associates, Ltd., a leader in the food services industry. Metz employee and chef Eric Schappert is excited to be serving the Johnson College community. “Items are made fresh daily because it is my personal belief that food is better when it’s fresh,” states Mr. Schappert.

The new Moffat cafeteria is able to offer its customers a great deal more. New features include a Point of Sale debit computer system for use by all students, faculty and staff and an enhanced menu featuring breakfast foods and “HEALTHChecks” items, which contain limited amounts of saturated fats, lower calories and lower sodium content. Customers can also view weekly menus on Johnson College’s website, complete with prices and daily specials.

The improvements to the cafeteria tie into Johnson College’s Strategic Initiatives, enhancing the efficiency of the college for its students. Mr. Schappert explains, “A good meal before or during the day helps students’ minds when they are in class or workshops.”

I am interested in how the HEALTHChecks is goign with students. Are students embracing it and eating healthier foods?

  7. Melissa Boyd says:

I’m also curious as to whether the customers will actually eat the healthier options. It seems very hard for people to change longstanding eating habits, especially under times of transition and stress.

This canteen in the second picture looks far too good for a University. I think I might think about encouraging my son to apply here….

  11. Thanks for the ideas you have shared in Johnson College Unveils Newly Renovated Cafeteria | Johnson College Blog. One more thing I would like to express is that personal computer memory demands generally increase along with other advances in the technologies. For instance, when new generations of processor chips are made in the market, there’s usually a corresponding increase in the type demands of both the computer memory plus hard drive room. This is because software program operated simply by these cpus will inevitably boost in power to take advantage of the new technological know-how.
