Johnson College will hold its 90th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 9, 2009 starting at 10:00am with Congressman Christopher P. Carney as the Commencement Speaker. Due to tremendous growth over the last few years, the College will host the ceremony off campus for the first time in history at the Scranton Cultural Center.
“I am thrilled to have someone as dynamic as Congressman Carney address our graduates on one of the most important days of their lives,” states Dr. Ann Pipinski, President and CEO of Johnson College. “His breadth of experience will resonate well with our students.”
Congressman Carney was elected in 2006 to represent Pennsylvania’s 10th District. He grew up in rural Iowa, near Cedar Rapids. He worked his way through Cornell College as an EMT and he double majored in Environmental Science and U.S. Diplomatic History. After college, Congressman Carney did graduate work at the University of Wyoming, where he met his future wife, Jennifer. After enjoying teaching at the University of Wyoming, Congressman Carney decided to pursue a career in higher education; in 1992, the Carney family moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania where Congressman Carney became an Associate Professor at Penn State University in Scranton.
After 9/11, Congressman Carney served at the Pentagon as an intelligence analyst and senior advisor on intelligence and counterterrorism issues. He coordinated counterterrorism activities in the Middle East and later worked on the integration of national-level intelligence products in the effort to destroy international terrorist networks.
A Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserve, Congressman Carney served multiple tours overseas and was activated for operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, and Southern Watch.
Currently in Congress, Congressman Carney serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where he is the Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management; and the Committee on Homeland Security, where he is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight.
Congressman Carney lives in Dimock, PA with his wife Jennifer and their five children: Ryne, Sean, Seth, Keeley and Brett.
Johnson College expects to award over 120 Associate Degrees the day of graduation. The program includes the remarks by Congressman Carney; an address from the President and CEO, Dr. Ann Pipinski; acknowledgement of award recipients; and a statement from the Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Great speaker.
Was looking for information on that. I wrote it off as yet another price, but I am going to have a look at it once more.
